Fox News and CNN Comparison

Already we know that Fox news is a more onesided Replubican station and so we know what to basically expect from them. One of ther major topics they dicussed was the Obama's first 100 days in office. They basically focused on his spending habits and said how he is just spending a enormous amounts of money, government money, and not accounting for it. That was interesting. Truely to this day Obama really hasn't done much yet or at least what he has done isnt covered.

I think CNN covers more of the issues concerning the happening in the rest of the world and I more so tune to CNN then any other Broadcast news.

OK so I just had to comment on Andy's media blog South Park: Social Commentary at It's Finest.
I don't watch South Park and I don't really like it's taste, but the joke about the presidential election was kind of on point.
I agree with the emphasis on the public's reaction and the lingering attitudes of the people about the Apocalypse and all that with the McCain supporters. It is not that far of an exaggeration because alot of the conversations I had last year and still this year was certainly on that scheme.
On one side people were on Obama's campaign hardcore, especially on this campus. I saw the supporters of McCain were more so kind of anxious when they pretty much new the outcome of the election but what would happen to society afterwards was a fear to some. It was like as if people were ready to go and move into caves or lock themselves in a closet when Obama won..
I remember reading a facebook group, "If Obama is president I'm moving to Canada".

Local News

I watched d the local news show on Fox and I was watching I was cooking and do a bunch of things while still having the TV on blast and in my view. I sat down about a half an hour into the news and I realized I hadn't seen anything political. There was a comment about president Obama's sneakers but yeah that was it. I even asked my roomate who sitting down in the living room watching it too nothing, she confirmed there was nothing on about politics. I mean I believe there was some reference to government officials but nothing depth about it. I think the 5:00pm news makes no sense to watch at all. The only slightly interested thing I watched was about what the celebrities would be wearing at the Gala in the Met. You would think since it was at 5:00pm most people getting home from work people might me interested about what was happening in the world while preparing dinner. It would be a great time to capture an audience I think but just not any topics of importance.

In the NY Times today an article that caught my attention on the front page headlined Porous Border With Pakistan Could Hinder U.S. Troops. The issue here is that the borders have holes that aren't secured and it has been a pathway for infiltration from the Taliban.Though this article made headline coverage its not really that interesting or should be breaking news that it had to be on the front page.

The NY Times newspaper is great its just that this story is just a bore to read. I think had it been referenced in like the daily show and have them present it could make a bit bearable and entertaining to want to even know the facts

Rush Limbaugh- "I Hope He Fails"

First, I would just like to say I never listened to Rush Limbaugh before having to for this blog project and I dont think I ever will again. I mean plainly I don't like him or his jokes. He is truely so full of himself and just loud for nothing. Like he completed one sided narrow minded and proud and quite frankly doesn't care of anyone opinions but his own. He actually said he hopes the President fails.... wow talk about sour.

I mean reguardless of your political party America is your country. If the president fails so does the country. I mean if you look at Christians who are more conservative they might not agree with Obama but they still pray for him because he's the leader. I mean he has a lot of listeners and vieweres therefore he has some power he could more so benefit by bringing his opinions on air in a less shovanistic way. Than, maybe more politiians would actually consider his view and if good help shape this country positively.

Hannity and Colms

After watching an episode of Hannity and Colms on Fox/Youtube network it was interesting to see debates on the issues and presented in a way that was argumentative and informative.
It is unfortunate that the show is no longer running and they booted off Colms who to me when watching some of the clips in the past made it very interesting. He was also the more liberal of the two as well. He was very good at cutting people off and not letting them speak to get his point across. I watched a more recent clip when Ann Coult was on and they to the more conservative stand and were more so criticzing the president on thing like Guantanamo Bay and the delay of shutdown, when just a week before he was sworn into office. They criticised the media's favoritism toward the president and how seemingly big issues on the president agenda was just suddenly stopped being presented as if he handled the issue or the it went a way.

Op-ed NY Times

In the opinion section of the NY times another article about the swine flu. In this article ,
A Sick Situation she leads light on the victims of the swine flu which is like everyone inluding the ones who arent even infected. But she gives her opinion about how Obamas response was for everypnt to just stay home instead of something more sensible like washing your hands. I disagree with her on that part because if you are sick why go to work and spread that illness to everyone else. The flu is spread from human to human that means if your in a closed room with someone and they cough or sneaze or breath your hit.

I see how this can cause a potentialdillema in reguards to people losing their job or money but this could have been a potential crisis.The Swan flu as was reported in the beginning, (but just seem to be hype) to be deadly and its good that people are taking precaution. Over all I think this column was good and informative we understand her opinons i the same way we get the facts.

Order of Importance ABC News

I watched the ABC news at 6:30pm yesterday and the news pretty much political. More so the local news at 5:00pm on Fox I couldnt remember seeing hardly anything about politics. But the next work new though kind of stale did have a formaton which I believe was a lined acurately at least for they scooped.

Network News Comparison to the Daily Show

So I watched the the local evening news and everything was straight forward not much interpretation. It was basically just informative not much opinion about the topics not any free expression. Basically catered to the pace of the senior population. the main issues were talked about the swine flu again and death toll.
John Stewart on the other hand Hilarious. I mean you definitely need people like him to add some comic relief to the almost always depressing new stories. John Stewart put his spin on the hot topics in the news today. I enjoy watching him give his interpretation of the news and its funny. I mean his commentary could even awaken the senior population if they were up that late. His spin on the swine flu was very interesting. There such a big hype about it today and how dangerous it is he really broke the tension and the anxieties about it with his jokes. He jokes about the pork industry wanting to change the name from "swine flu" to "hybrid flu" and showed a hybrid car ... his show is just more easier to watch.

Good Night Good Luck

In class we watched the film Good Night Good Luck, directed by George Clooney. Its a an entertaining film about politics and the journalist's job of reporting the news no matter the cost. The main character Edward R Murrow displays attributes of courage and principle in investigative reporting. In the plot he outs a corrupt Senator McCarthy, who basically went around spreading the hysteria of communism and falsely accusing people of being members of that party.This senator actually went around disrupting peoples lives and Edward R Murrow saw the injustice in that and decided to give the people the side that no one would report on. With the permission of the network CBS, he exposed the American public to a free press and reported the truth and the favorable side of the Senator.

The film really gives you an inside look on investigative reporting and how they have a big role in informing the public of every side and actually living up to their title of the "watch dog".

Lets Go Green! - or Just Save Energy.....

In the environment today, America did not make the top ten rank of the most energy effecient countries. A recent post in The Environmental talks about Obama's ambition for the US to become the leader in energy renewable resources. Currenty, the US is gets 3% of its energy from renewable resources while a huge portion of energy is dependent on oil from the Middle East.

In my opinion this is just wishful thinking. I mean he said leading in energy renewable resources and right now thats Denmark because they live alot simpler lives. America is far from simple, far from green and far from solar....Like, what happen to the electric car---really?

Anyway. this is really just another fancy bullet to take a space on Obama's

"Yes WeCan/Change" agenda for re-election 2013.

Opinion on the Huffington Post Blog

The Huffington Post covers the news in a creative format that allows people to be more informed and interactive by stating their own opinions. The blog is very liberal and its an arena open to all ideas. It is much more colorful then the traditional newspaper. It has everything from politics and entertainment, to like the environment. Its so interesting to read some of the headlines of the news, and the pictures are just as entertaining. The pictures shown of people walking around with swine flu masks just tickles me-- seriously. I know it is suppose to be a serious issue but the blue mask and celebrety endorsers makes it hard to see it that way.

I like the convience of it to actually click on a topic and gives a bunch of related news articles on the topic. The breaking news articles are usaully on part as well.

There's A Natural Cure for Cancer ?

Amazing ....and yet again sad. There is some news going around about a natural cure for cancer. Sources say, a Graviola tree in the Amazon, that grows a fruit called "sour sop" , is said to be 10,000 times stronger than chemo therapy. And unlike chemo, it only targets the malignant cancer cells leaving the good ones intact.This fruit is said to be a cure for12 different types of cancers, including breast, colon, lung and pancreatic cancers. But here's what so amazing about this story---It's not on the news! I have not heard any main stream media coverage on this discovery. It's not in the morning news (which is by the way, where you would expect to see a health segment), nor is it on the evening news.

Why would this story not get coverage? ---or better yet , why isn't this on the market? The issue is ( which really shouldn't be an issue), the billion dollar drug companies who actually went out and spent millions researching this fruit, can't patent it. They can't patent it because its a completely natural agent and under federal law not patentable. There for not profitable so not accessible? Sad.

Viral Marketing?

So, Today I was doing some online surfing and stopped by the Jezebel (a feminist blog), and this interesting headline caught my attention. It reads , "Swine Flu is the Hottest New Viral Marketing Idea". At first I thought to myself, "wow a possible pandemic hitting the US and there are people actually using it as a get rich marketing tool.
I then realized it isn't really that surprising... It was just a matter of time before some greedy CEO came up with an idea to make money of others people's pain. Disease is the number one money marketing agent, making billions at a time. This reminds me of the greed of pharmaceutical industry who instead of looking for a cure, would go for those most profitable market and create drugs that would be required for one's life time.

America's Next Top Role Model ?

Ex-model Tyra Banks is on a role with her her reality T.V show America's Next Top model and her talk show, but I question whether her tactics and the way her show portrays women effects the impressionable young minds of the youth today.
